WEYERS CAVE, Va. -- A few travelers at Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport gave up on flying. With a few winter storm threats, they decided they would prefer to drive.

Seth Hart lives in London, but he grew up in the Valley. His wife's family lives in New York, so he thought he could beat the storm in a car.

"We're renting a car and trying to beat out the snow, and driving to Syracuse on wonderful Christmas night," said Hart.

They packed up the rental car and wouldn't take risks.

"Tomorrow there's supposed to be terrible snow up there, and some snow coming to the Valley as well."

Hart wanted to make sure their holiday time in the states was well spent.

"First part with my family, and second part with her family. So we didn't want to cut any of it short."

The Harts weren't the only ones renting cars this Christmas. Chris Landes had to drive to the Valley from Dulles.

"I was flying into Dulles from Denver to get a connection. My flight got delayed three times," said Landes.

Landes ran out of patience and decided to drive instead of wait.

"I had to rent a car at Dulles, and I had to drive last night at like midnight, got home well after 2AM."

Landes said the drive was worth it to get to spend Christmas at home with his family. Although, he missed a fresh change of clothes.

"The next flight was in the morning, I didn't want to wait that long. So, I'm just coming to pick up my bag now."

Travel delays are typical for this time of year, but the Harts have never gone so much out of their way to avoid the airport.

"Nothing like this, nothing like dashing through the snow, literally, on Christmas day, to avoid potential delays in regional air," said Hart.
