VERONA, Va -- Cars speed by so close to Michele Powell's home. She lives down the street from where a man was just hit by a car while doing his yard work on Berry Farm Rd. The man who was hit in that accident on Monday is now in fair condition.

"We could be sitting on our front porch and sometimes it's like a blur going by, they're going by so fast. In the mornings, before school is the worst and in the evenings we've noticed are the worst," said Powell.

Without a real driveway, Powell has to park her car close to the road. She said it is dangerous when she takes her 5-year old daughter to school in the morning because the cars go by so fast. Powell said a car could easily hit her car or worse.

"Cars can be replaced, but my daughter can't be replaced."

Right outside Powell's home is a speed limit sign that says 35 miles-per-hour, but she said most cars go much faster than that.

"And what's really scary are the tractor trailers that go down that road. They fly up and down that road."

She said the cars that fly by are putting her family in danger and that was why Powell said she does not let her daughter play outside in the front yard.

After her neighbor was hit, she hopes something can change to make the road safe.

"And I feel so bad for this man that got hurt and I'm hoping because of this maybe police could step in and start patrolling the area more because this is just going to continue happening."

Powell said she has tried to contact police to do something about the speeding, but she has not seen anything done.
