ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va.- In the race for School Board in Rockingham County, one candidate expected to get elected as a write-in.

While Ladonna Shiflet won the District 1seat with 62 percent of the vote, 38 percent wrote-in a candidate.

The registrar's office said they are still processing the name which has received different variations.

Richard Fulk estimated he would need 1,600 to 1,700 votes to win.

The assistant registrar said over 1,300 people wrote-in a candidate in this race, which generally only receives a few write-ins.

However, if someone is running a campaign, like Fulk, those numbers will be higher.

"I'm actually, I guess disappointed because I expected to win the election and this type of thing. But again, like I said, I knew that it was going to be a challenge to get that many people because normally when you go to the precinct, you are looking for the name of the person that you are going to vote for," said Fulk.

Fulk won his seat in the Broadway Town Council as a write-in candidate in 2007.

The registrar's office said it will have the write-in totals by Thursday.
