Ingredients
- Six 1” thick slices day-old Panettoni
- 6 large eggs
- 1½ cups milk
- 1½ teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoon sugar
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- Confectioners’sugar ~ Maple syrup
Directions
1: Arrange bread slices in a large roasting pan.
2: Combine eggs, milk, vanilla extract and sugar in a bowl. Pour this over the bread and let it stand for about 30 minutes, carefully turning it over with a large spatula half way through.
3: Melt butter in a large jellyroll pan (cookie sheet with sides) in a 400° oven. Tilt pan so the butter coats it evenly.
4: Carefully place bread on hot, buttered pan, spacing it evenly. Bake for 15 minutes. Turn each piece of bread over with a wide spatula.
5: Bake until bread is puffed and evenly browned, 15 to 20 minutes more.
6: Transfer to a platter, dust with confectioners’ sugar and serve with maple syrup, if desired.
