Rolled Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup margarine or butter, softened
  • 3 Tbsp. milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 cup sugar

    Directions

    1. In large bowl, combine one cup sugar, margarine, milk, vanilla and egg. Blend well.



    2. Stir in flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix well. Cover with plastic wrap. Refrigerate one hour for easier handling.



    3. Heat oven to 400 °.



    4. On lightly floured surface, roll out 1/3 of dough at a time to 1/8-inch thickness. Keep remaining dough refrigerated. Cut with floured cookie cutter.



    5. Place 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Sprinkle with sugar.



    6. Bake for five to nine minutes, or until edges are light brown. Immediately remove cookie sheets.



    Yield: 5 to 6 dozen cookies
