HARRISONBURG -- On Wednesday, a Superior Concrete dump truck was involved in a traffic incident which caused downed power lines. Police say the truck driver drove through the power lines with a raised bed, causing power and cable outages throughout the city. Workers were out repairing power and cable lines for close to 24 hours Wednesday.

Tony Wilt is the president of Superior Concrete. If that name sounds familiar, it's because he's also a Virginia delegate. He represents Harrisonburg and part of Rockingham County.

Wilt said the company would never allow drivers to use a truck that wasn't safe.

"We're not going to knowingly let a piece of equipment out on the road that has problems that could result in any kind of damage to our equipment or to the other folks in the road. That's just not going to happen," said Wilt.

Wilt said he doesn't understand how something like this could have happened. He said leaders in his company keep safety records on every truck and there was nothing wrong with the truck involved in the incident.

Wilt said the driver usually has to manually raise the bed of the truck from inside and he said it would be surprising if the truck did that on its own.

Wilt said the driver of that truck was fairly new to the company, but he worked at the Virginia Department of Transportation for many years.

Wilt said he's thankful for all the crews which worked for hours to restore power and clean. He's also glad no one was seriously injured.
