STAUNTON -- A 12-year-old driving a car hit a parked van on Grubert Avenue Wednesday just after 8 p.m. Both the truck and van have about $3,000 of damage. A Staunton Police officer said no injuries were reported.

The boy got the car keys while his mom was inside a store.

Jimmy Thompson said he watched everything happen from his window.

"Just like a track racing up speeding and then all of the sudden you just heard smash. That's it. Glass shattered, pieces flew,” said Thompson.

Thompson said he thought the boy was going to hit his car at first. He said the boy came into his house right after the crash and looked scared.

A Staunton Police representative said the boy doesn't face any charges.
