AUGUSTA COUNTY -- Deputies with the Augusta County Sheriff's Office arrested Matthew Davis for allegedly stealing copper wire.
Scrap yard workers found the stolen wire and noticed the wire belonged to Dominion Power.
Deputies believe Davis cut through a fence around a substation to steal the copper wire.
Davis is charged with breaking and entering and theft.
The investigator with this case said scrap yards usually sell copper for more than $3 per pound. He said he only sees two to three copper theft cases per week, but he said as the price of copper increases, so does the number of thefts.
