Updated: 5:51 PM I am originally from Bel Air, Maryland, which is about a half hour northeast of Baltimore. College took me to the University of Miami in Florida. I figured if I could be near beaches and enjoy summer year round, that’s where I should spend four years studying.

After graduating from Cherokee Washington High School I went Creighton University in Omaha for a year and transferred to Iowa State University. I subsequently did my masters at Kansas State University and doctorate at Northwestern University.

Updated: 6:01 PM I was born in a small town called Gowanda, NY, about 30 minutes south of Buffalo, NY. My family moved to Harrisonburg from Rochester, NY my sophomore year in high school. I graduated from Harrisonburg High School in 1984 and then attended JMU, where I earned a BBA in Computer Information Systems in 1993.

I attended and graduated college from East Tennessee State University before moving to Charleston, South Carolina for four years. I returned home to Harrisonburg in 1998. I married Erik Shifflett in 2000 and I have two step children, Austin (18) and Tanner (17) and two girls, Emma Grace (9) and Leah Faith (7).
Updated: 5:50 PM I am from Hollywood, Florida and lived there until I left for Bridgewater College following my senior year in High school. I graduated from Bridgewater in 2010 and resumed my academic career at James Madison University in 2011 with my sights on a Master’s degree in Biology.
Updated: 5:50 PM I grew up in McLean, VA (right outside of D.C.). I attended JMU and graduated in 1997 with a B.S. in Dietetics. I was, fortunately, sucked in by the ‘burg and have been here ever since. I went on to get my nursing degree in 2005.
