Team Shaeffer & Stutzman : Julia Stutzman Profile

I grew up just outside of Bridgewater, and I attended Bridgewater College for my undergraduate degree. I double majored in Biology and Environmental Science. My master’s degree is from JMU in Biology, and my thesis research was on some plant species from the Galápagos Islands. My specialty is plants, though I now teach on a range of topics.
Occupation and other community service you are involved in: I currently teach biology labs at JMU, as I began doing as a graduate student. This summer I also started as the Education Coordinator at the Edith J. Carrier Arboretum, on the campus of JMU. I will also be teaching a Forest Ecology course this semester at EMU.
I also play in the handbell choir and sing in the choral choir at my church.

Fun facts about you:
I started dancing ballet when I was six, and continued into high school. I began ballroom dancing while I was a student at Bridgewater College.
I’ve been to 17 other countries outside of the United States, and I hope to visit more. I really enjoy travelling.
I competed on the equestrian team while at Bridgewater College. I was also involved in many theatre productions, either as cast or crew, the four years I was there. I also sang in BC’s concert choir.
I enjoy making stone and crystal bead jewelry.

Why did you decide to participate in DWTS? I want to participate in DWTS-OTB because I love to dance and share my enthusiasm for dance with others. This is a great opportunity to demonstrate just how much fun dancing can be. And getting to dance for fun, to benefit a charity, is pretty much the most ideal situation!

I love to dance because.... It’s fun! You get to engage your artistic abilities, muscle control, and rhythm all at the same time. It’s a great exercise for both mind and body, but above all it’s just fun!

If there was one thing that we could focus on about you as we promote DWTS, what would that one thing be?
I have been dancing in one form or another for almost the entirety of my life, and I don’t plan to stop!
