Local Delegates Stump for McCain

On Tuesday, Presidential candidate John McCain's plan to solve the energy crisis in Virginia was addressed at a press conference in the Valley.

While McCain himself rallied in South Dakota, Virginia Republican Dels. Chris Saxman and Matt Lohr presented McCain's "Lexington Plan" in Harrisonburg.

The plan entails using several alternative energy sources such as nuclear power plants, eliminating ethanol mandates and allowing offshore drilling to meet the energy demands.

Eliminating the ethanol mandates will help bring down the price of corn, and Lohr says drilling off Virginia's coast would significantly help local farmers.

He says, "Off the coast of Virginia there's lots of reserves of natural gas, which if we're able to get in there and drill for that it's going to play a huge role in agriculture. The natural gas not only do we use it, an example, for heating of our poultry barns, but also it's used to make fertilizer."

Lohr says harnessing natural gas will drive down the cost of fertilizer.
