Voters in Page County showed their support for Sheriff John Thomas by voting to keep him in his appointed position.

Thomas was appointed as sheriff in April to replace Daniel Presgraves.

On Election Day, Thomas beat candidate Pete Monteleone, which keeps him in his position for the next two years.

He says he's is excited to have the support of the county, but also says the job comes with a lot of responsibility.

"We have started the streamlining process and we are just very, very grateful to be here," says Thomas.

After the scandal with Presgraves this past year, many Page County residents lost faith in the sheriff's office.

"I think anytime people lose trust in a position, it's inherent upon that person that takes that position over to show the public, 'Yes you can trust me,'" says Thomas.

Thomas explains that things he learned from his father made him the man he is now.

"He taught me a level or morality and integrity that I will never forget and my lord has taught me the same thing. Those are things that you keep with you, and those are things that I bring to this agency, and those are things that I will gladly give to this county," says Thomas.

"I'm excited about Mr. Thomas, I really am, and I'm sure Page County is going to be blossoming before too long," says Frances Dress, a Page County resident.

During the Presgraves' investigation, Thomas was acting as an investigator as well as chaplain for the sheriff's office.

Serving in these roles, Thomas, and others, came across information that was important in the case.

"I did what any person who comes in contact with information in an ongoing investigation should do, and that's take it to the proper authorities," says Thomas.

Many Page County voters think he is the right person to bring back trust to an office that is designed to serve and protect.

"As far as the law goes, he's going to be there, so watch your step, make sure you don't do anything wrong," says Dress.

Thomas says there is some tweaking to do in the office, but overall, it is filled with great workers.
