House Majority Leader Eric Cantor says Senate candidates in next year's elections and House candidates ought to back Congressman Paul Ryan's Republican budget plan.
Asked after a Rotary Club speech in his hometown of Richmond if Senate candidates should sign on to the Ryan budget and its sweeping overhaul of Medicaid and Medicare, Cantor said "Yes."
That specifically puts the heat on fellow Virginia Republican George Allen, who is running next year to reclaim his old U.S. Senate seat. Allen has called the Ryan plan "a good start," but has not embraced it.
Republicans facing voters next year are wary after a Democrat upset a Republican last month in a special election in New York state where Ryan's budget and cuts to the health care entitlement programs were major factors.
