HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- It's not every day a former president comes to the area, but as it turns out, today's event was much smaller than Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney visits last year.

Driving around JMU campus was pretty easy and there wasn't much traffic.

JMU Police and Virginia State Police were the local law enforcement presence on campus; no one from Harrisonburg Police Department or the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office was there.

Clinton and McAuliffe arrived at SHD in separate planes and then drove off for the Festival Center.

There was a rather large police presence at SHD and at one point the terminal was cleared so it could be locked down.

Police dogs were also at the airport and everything went smoothly.

We contacted both the McAuliffe campaign and the Virginia Democrats to see who would pay for any costs of having local law enforcement present, but neither group responded.
