Ohio authorities say a fugitive accused of stealing more than $20 million nationwide through a bogus charity for U.S. Navy veterans donated nearly $300,000 to mostly Republican political causes, including George W. Bush's presidential campaigns and several U.S. senators.

The state attorney general's office doesn't know if the political contributions came directly from donations to the U.S. Navy Veterans Association. Some of the 50 recipients in 16 states have since given the man's contributions to charities.

An Ohio attorney general's spokesman says the Pompano Beach, Florida man claims to be Bobby Charles Thompson, which is a stolen identity. Authorities don't know who he really is or where he is since he disappeared last year.

He faces several felony charges in Cleveland and other states are investigating.
