Harrisonburg- Harrisonburg City Schools held a board meeting Tuesday night.
One of the topics on the agenda was the school budget. Dr. Scott Kizner, Superintendent for Harrisonburg City Schools, presented the budget plans to the school board.
Last week, Kizner presented the budget to city council members.
The budget plans include expanding STEM programs, increasing enrollment and increasing teacher salaries.
It would increase the budget by 2.5 percent from last year.
Kizner says he is encouraged that the city manager has already accepted the school budget.
"I think it is important that the city council and tax payers see that the investment we are making not only helps the school system, but also the community at large," says Kizner.
Next week, the board will hold a public hearing on the budget, and the city is expected to pass the budget in a few weeks.
Kizner says he is optimistic about the school budget being passed.
