Voters in Rockingham County have selected a new Sheriff.

Woodstock Police Chief Bryan Hutcheson won with 66 percent of the vote, beating out CM Hess and Kevin Shifflett.

Hutcheson will replace retiring Sheriff Don Farley sometime next year.

I spoke with Hutcheson after his win.

KC: What do you have to say to your supporters?
BH: Thank you, I can't thank them enough. We had a lot of energetic hard working people that helped us on the campaign and we couldn't have done it without them. It's all about the we, it's not about me. I'm very appreciative.

KC: What's one of the first things you'll do as Sheriff?
BH: My campaign slogan is 'policing for the people,' being pro-active in law enforcement and maybe changing the way we go about our business. Again I would like to thank the Sheriff. He's already extended the invitation to help me with the transition process and getting in there an I'm grateful for that and I'll take him up on it.
