GROTTOES, Va -- Some people said they are finding an unusual letter in the mail. It lists their neighbors names, addresses and if they voted in the past two presidential elections. The letter comes from Americans for Limited Government, which is a non-partisan organization based in Fairfax.
A spokesperson for the group said the letters are meant to encourage people to vote by comparing them to their neighbors, but Rebecca Wood, whose neighbor received a letter, said this tactic will not work.
"I feel like this whole thing is an invasion of privacy and I think putting people's names out there in something like this," said Rebecca Wood.
Representatives with the Virginia State Board of Elections said they did not sell the voting history data to the Americans for Limited Government, however, that information is public record.
More than 2.75 million voters in 19 states have received the letters.
