RESTON, Va. (AP) -- Republican Ken Cuccinelli was dogged by his activism on conservative issues such as his hostility to abortion rights and gay marriage, while his Democratic foe, Terry McAuliffe, offered deep concern about local business taxes without proposing solutions for them.

Technology industry leaders grilled Virginia's candidates for governor separately Thursday in their own back yard, Fairfax County, chiefly about their tax and business initiatives.

But two Northern Virginia Technology Council questioners quizzed Cuccinelli on GOP support for restrictions on reproductive rights as quality-of-life issues affecting their bottom lines. They drew light laughter and snickers when he sought to minimize his anti-abortion efforts, saying, "It's not like I overdo this."

Asked about local taxes on inventory, machines and tools and a gross-receipts tax, McAuliffe said he'd leave the issues to localities.
