JAMES MADISON UNIVERSITY, Va -- Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney will announce his pick for vice president with his own app. The campaign will have a free app for iPhones and Androids to let supporters be the first ones to find out about Romney's VP. To visit the app's website, go here: Http://www.Mittromney.Com/app/vp
The campaign promises app users that they will find out who Romney chooses before the press and everyone else, except maybe Romney's wife.
The use of social media may target the younger voters.
“This is an effort now to say we want your vote, too,” said James Madison University political analyst Bob Roberts. “There are conservative young voters out there. We're going to pay attention to you, and therefore we're going to use social media, too.”
There is another motive behind the app for the campaign. It lets Romney reps see users' locations, which they could use to target people in battleground states.
Romney's not the first to make this major announcement on a mobile phone. President Barack Obama collected thousands of supporters' phone numbers with the promise that he would share his VP pick by text message.
