Chances are you've seen countless campaign signs around Rockingham County for the sheriff's race.

Jerry Roy has taken his support for Bryan Hutcheson a step further, by converting his pick-up truck into a moving campaign ad.

"Driving down the road, and you see somebody, and they give you a thumbs up. Kind of nice to see people and know they're going to support him," Roy says.

DeeDee Sencindiver shows her support for C.M. Hess by putting signs up all over her lawn and knocking on doors. She says this election has changed the way voters think in this county.

"Regardless of the candidate you're supporting, to me it's important you're supporting someone. I feel like, what this election has given our area, our city and county, is an informed group of voters," Sencidiver says.

But not every candidate has signs everywhere. Supporters for Kevin Shifflett, like Jennifer Edwards, have taken a more subtle approach, who prefer just to talk with voters.

"Kevin doesn't do any fund raising. It's really just talking to people, just knocking on doors. Going and talking to groups, talking to people in public. Anywhere you can," Edwards says.

But why exactly has this race caught so much attention? Roy has one theory.

"People, they want a change. They want somebody who is going to bring professionalism to the Sheriff's Office," Edwards says.

Deedee says there hasn't been a race for sheriff in nearly two decades, and that's been the difference.

"I think it really brought it to the forefront of people saying I want to take action, I want the best person," he says.

Of course it's not just about stickers and signs, but a lot of leg work is involved with knocking on doors and making phone calls. Regardless of Tuesday's results, all of the campaign workers say a rest day is certainly in the works for Wednesday.
