WV Town's Elections on Hold Due to Ballot and Recount Problems

Municipal elections in Gary are on hold because of incorrectly printed ballots, recount issues and other problems.

Gary officials say they're working with the Secretary of State's Office to resolve the problems.

The McDowell County town held its primary elections May 10 and had scheduled the general elections for Tuesday. Officials discovered the problems during post-primary canvassing.

Acting Recorder Bill Waldron tells the Bluefield Daily Telegraph that the election issues are a "convoluted situation."

Waldron is a candidate for recorder and won the primary. He was named acting recorder after the former recorder resigned last week.

Waldron says a new election date hasn't been set. Municipal officers must take their posts July 1.
