CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin began October with $2.1 million campaign balance in his quest for a full term.
The West Virginia Democrat raised nearly $570,000 during the previous three months. That's more than any of the state's U.S. House candidates.
Manchin's contributors include an array of health care, financial sector and energy industry sources.
Manchin defeated Republican John Raese in 2010 to complete the term of the late Robert C. Byrd. The seat is now up for a full, 6-year term and Manchin faces a rematch with Raese.
A Morgantown industrialist and multimillionaire, Raese loaned his campaign $535,000 after raising just $144,000.
Two sources supplied nearly half of Raese contributions: his employees or family members, and people associated with Mountaineer Contracting.
Raese had an $84,000 campaign balance.
