A recent fundraising campaign proves fruitful for Waynesboro’s historic Wayne Theatre. Organizers say they've raised more than $1 million.

Members of the Wayne Theatre Alliance met Friday to announce the group is now getting help from the Virginia Department of Historic Resources, making it eligible for historic tax credits.

The next phase of fundraising for the theatre will kick-off on November 2.

Chairman Bill Hausrath says this is a very exciting time, as the group has high hopes for the coming year.

He says, "One year from now, we should be announcing what our performance schedule will be for the Wayne Theatre and that will truly be an exciting time."
