The ghost of Christmas past haunts the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Historical Society Museum this December.

The society has revived holiday toys and trinkets, some of which date back more than 100 years.

The museum's curator, Richard Martin, says there are rare items in the exhibit he hadn't even seen before.

Some of those are the remnants of a German Christmas tradition unique to the Valley, called Belsnickling.

Martin says, "The tradition is that you dress up in costume and try to make it so people don't know who you are. Then go visit people who you know and you try to fool them into thinking that you're somebody else."
