Virginia State Fair officials say this year's attendance was the second largest since 1998.
The 11-day event that ended Oct. 9 drew 268,930 visitors. It's the biggest crowd in the three years since the fair moved to The Meadow Event Park in Doswell.
Fair officials attribute the strong attendance to new discounts for young children and senior citizens, as well as a concert lineup that featured The Band Perry, Tracy Lawrence, The Marshall Tucker Band and others.
The fair sold more than 10,000 season passes in 2011, up from 3,600 in 2010.
