Dr. Reid Harris, professor of biology at James Madison University, and some of his students are featured in a Smithsonian Channel documentary about efforts to save the world's amphibians from a deadly fungus that has wiped out some populations.

A production crew came to JMU in the fall of 2010 to film the segments featuring Harris and his laboratory.

Harris attended a premiere of the film on Oct. 11 at the National Zoo in Washington. Smithsonian Directors and leaders in conservation biology were among the 170 attendees.

The documentary highlights a trip to Panama to rescue a threatened amphibian species and features Harris and his lab, including a masters student and an honors student, at various points throughout.

After the screening, Harris was part of a panel that fielded questions from the audience.

The head of the Smithsonian Channel said the documentary will be shown periodically.
