A northern Kentucky radio station is expanding its footprint to Ohio and West Virginia by taking over three other outlets.
WNKU-FM will reach from Dayton, Ohio to Charleston, West Virginia, starting Tuesday, when the 12,000-watt station tied to Northern Kentucky University takes over Middletown's WPFB-FM (105.9) and WPFB-AM (910), and Portsmouth's WPAY-FM (104.1). Those stations will simulcast WNKU-FM.
The Kentucky Enquirer reports that the $6.75-million deal triples the potential audience to 3.1 million for WNKU-FM's adult album alternative format.
WNKU-FM will become the nation's fourth-largest noncommercial AAA station, behind Philadelphia, New York, Minneapolis and Dallas stations.
