"Modern Family" is the winner of the best comedy series Emmy Award, repeating last year's victory.

The series picked up a total of five awards at Sunday's Emmys,

Burrell and best writing and direction.

Other contenders for best comedy at the awards ceremony were "The Big Bang Theory" and "Glee."

"Mad Men" won the best drama series award.

"The Good Wife" star Julianna Margulies is the winner of the Emmy Award for best actress in a drama series, while Kyle Chandler won the male lead actor award.

As a member of the "ER" medical drama cast, she won a best supporting actress trophy in 1995.

Chandler won for his role as a high-school football coach in a small Texas town.

He beat out more heavily favored nominees Jon Hamm of "Mad Men" and Steve Buscemi of "Boardwalk Empire."
