A play aimed at helping people plan for difficult end-of-life care decisions will be performed for the first time this week in Morgantown.
"Mercy Machine" will be staged Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Monongalia Arts Center. Discussions will be held afterward with playwright Krista Komondor.
Organizers hope it will help families discuss issues such as how aggressively to treat a serious illness and who should make decisions for someone who's incapacitated.
Volunteers will also distribute information about health care proxies and living wills from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
Komondor is a graduate of the West Virginia University School of Nursing and lives in Brooklyn, New York.
She visited more than 30 nursing homes and other facilities for her research and worked in the industry from 2002 to 2005.
