First it was a book, and then a movie. Now Homer Hickam Jr.'s boyhood story about experimenting with model rockets in West Virginia's coalfields is a musical.
The Beckley Register-Herald reported Thursday that Threatre West Virginia will feature the musical as part of its summer lineup.
Rocket Boys the Musical follows Hickam's story of growing up in Coalwood during the 1950s. He and three friends experimented with model rockets during the age of Sputnik, and eventually won the national science fair.
Hickam's story was later turned into the 1999 movie "October Sky."
The musical's stage production is set for late August and early September.
Other products this summer are: "Honey in the Rock" and "Hatfields & McCoys," as well as musicals "All Shook Up" and Disney's "The Jungle Book Kids."
