The Capitol of Virginia is about to be converted for the next few months to an appearance more in keeping with the way it looked at the close of the Civil War.
It's all part of preparations for the filming of "Lincoln," director Steven Spielberg's latest major film production.
In places on the grounds of the 200-year-old seat Virginia government that once served as the Confederate Capitol, grass is
going unmowed for weeks to give it a more natural appearance at the
request of the filmmakers.
Rita McClenny, head of the Virginia Film Office, says Spielberg's moviemakers will be filming scenes on Capitol Square, in Richmond and in Petersburg this fall into December.
The film stars Daniel Day-Lewis in the title role and Sally Field as Mary Todd Lincoln.
