Every month, we search high and low for the teacher who inspires both their peers and their class. So over the river and through the woods we went, till we arrived in Page County and Springfield Elementary.
Meet Mrs. Logan.
She says, "I knew even when I was very young that I wanted to work with kids, and so I fell into teaching because that is the best place to work with kids."
You might be tempted to think that this rural school of just 400 might make a teacher sort of just settle into a routine. Not Mrs. Logan. It's a love for her students that drive Mrs. Logan to excellence every day.
"From the moment you walk into the build, but the kids are always going to do something to keep you hoping and on your toes," says Mrs. Logan.
And after 19 years, those toes are still getting a workout. Sixth grade math and science teacher Mollie Cupp says it's Mrs. Logan's ability to see the child and not the obstacle that amazes her.
She says, "If something’s not working, figure out a way around it. She can do that. She can figure out to get around whatever is in the way of a child learning something."
Seeing the forest and the trees, and passionate in her race to meet the demands of 21st century students. That's why Mrs. Logan gets this month's Golden Apple Award.
