This month's Golden Apple award winner puts a new view on physical education at Peak View Elementary. Despite most people's experience in school, she has more in mind than just making kids run laps for an hour.

Oneida Williams says, "It's not just teaching PE for the moment. It's teaching lifetime fitness."

From innovative games where even non-athletic kids can have fun getting in shape to learning the importance of keeping your heart ticking as long as possible, Williams wants to make sure her students are around for the long run. Her goal is to teach the kids.

She says, "To lead a lifestyle that is as healthy as possible, and leading that life as long as possible."

While some teachers may have sat on the sidelines to watch the students sweat, Williams has a different approach. Her students don't do anything she doesn't do. That means she's an example in and out of the classroom.

She says, "They know I teach fitness classes to adults. So I am not just trying to reach children, but the adult population. And it's important for me to stay as healthy and fit as possible."
