Susie Short, a teacher at Turner Ashby High School, is WHSV TV3's Golden Apple Award Winner for December.

Short has been teaching Haley King for ten years and it's Haley's mother, Karin King, who nominated her for our Golden Apple Award.

Short is a teacher of students with multiple disabilities at Turner Ashby and she has been teaching for more than twenty years.

When talking about her student, she states, "It's just been a passion to make sure they can participate and prove to everyone how intelligent they are."

Her assistant, Sherrie Holloway, says, "She is just very compassionate."

Holloway says they have strong drives to advocate for their students and Short always does that above and beyond, making sure all the teachers at Turner Ashby know that their students are fantastic.

Principal Steven Walk agrees with Holloway. He says Short is always enthusiastic, always willing to go the extra mile, and is a strong advocate for her students. According to Walk, Short is someone who makes sure her students are receiving the best education possible.

Our Golden Apple Award Winner says her favorite part about teaching is when others realize how smart her students are.

She says, "It makes me proud that they've worked this hard to be where they are and they can impress people."

Her student Haley tells TV3 that Mrs. Short is "really good" to her.
