February's Golden Apple Award Winner has been teaching for more than 30 years and she has no plans of ever stopping.
Virginia Browne makes sure her government students know what's happening in the world, through current events. "It helps me learn more about what's going on in the world, because I really don't read the newspaper, I don't listen to the news, I don't watch the news, I don't do any of that," says Government Student Amanda Alger.
Alger and many of her classmates agree that Mrs. Browne is a great teacher. "I think she's a wonderful teacher, she's the best teacher I could ever have for a government class," says Government Student Jessica Sommerlott. "I always use to think that, if I could just teach these children to love government, we could have some kind of change," says Golden Apple Award Winner Virginia Browne.
While she doesn't get to immediately see the affect she's having on students, she says it's worth the wait. "When students come back or you get an invitation to a college graduation from a former student, obviously something has clicked along the way which is really good," says Browne.
As good as when she found out she is this month's Golden Apple Award Winner. "I was flabbergasted, I had no clue, I never expected recognition of any kind from anybody, I do what I do because I love what I do," says Browne.
