This month's Golden Apple Award Winner is helping students put together a book that captures memories. When students look back through their yearbook, chances are, they'll think of the teacher who had a hand in creating it.

Leslie Stevens has only been teaching Photojournalism at Turner Ashby High School for three years. During that time the yearbook, The Crag has won awards on the state and national levels. "Every year we've gotten more awards, and the awards have gone up, so we're just kind of hoping once we get up to the top we can stay there," says Golden Apple Award Winner Leslie Stevens.

Stevens loves to write, and because of her, some students have come to enjoy it as well. "Before this year and before I actually took photojournalism class, I wasn't actually really into writing, but she really made me love writing," says Photojournalism Student Rachel Pennington. Writing isn't the only area Stevens has influenced students.

Some say she's taught them lessons they will use now and throughout their lives. "In life she's always taught me to have a smile on my face and the importance of having deadlines and meeting them," says Pennington. "She's a great person, you walk into her classroom and she smiles at you, and you know, if you had a rough day or something it could turn your day around and I think it takes a pretty special person to do that," says Photojournalism Student Morgan Privott.

Smiling comes naturally for Stevens, because she says she loves what she does. "It's just always been something that I have wanted to do. I just love reading and writing and so there was no other thing for me to do then to share my passion with other students," says Stevens.
