HARRISONBURG, VA (WHSV) WHSV-TV3 is calling on good neighbors from across the Valley to help our friends in Page County. The station has organized a cross-county food drive being held June 18-21, 2014.
In each quarter of 2014, WHSV is committed to organizing one “Good Neighbor Gift” to benefit a community in their viewing area. The first quarter project was the creation of Harrisonburg’s first sliding-scale infant daycare at the Roberta Webb Center. The second quarter gift will benefit the Page One organization.
According to US Census numbers, nearly 15% of Page County residents live below the poverty level. The Page One organization helps these residents by providing food, clothing, heating fuel assistance and more. These efforts are funded primarily from the profits of a thrift store operated by the organization.
WHSV is excited to announce that Byler Barns and Backyards has donated a storage building to Page One to house donations of food and thrift store items the organization receives. WHSV – with the help of generous viewers – wants to stock the shed full of non-perishable food items before it’s delivered.
The WHSV staff will be on hand June 18-21 to collect donations of non-perishable foods. They will be at the Luray Walmart from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18th and Thursday, June 19th. They will move to the Walmart on Route 42 in Harrisonburg on Friday, June 20th from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and the Harrisonburg Crossing Walmart on Saturday, June 21st from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Community members are encouraged to stop by one of the food drive locations with a non-perishable food donation and help “Stock The Shed”!
