On Wednesday, Taco Bell ordered the removal of green onions from its
5,800 restaurants nationwide. Samples of the onion that were tested
appeared to have a strain of E. coil.

The fast-food chain's restaurants were linked to recent E. coil
outbreaks in three states in Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey.

Taco Bell said the definitive results of the cause for the E. coli outbreak
will be announced as soon as they are available. It established a
toll-free telephone number, 1-800-TACO BELL, for those with concerns
about the outbreak, including customers and workers.
