More than 35,000 trailers used to house Gulf Coast Hurricane victims will be emptied as soon as possible.

The decision was prompted by tests indicating some of the temporary homes contain high levels of formaldehyde.

Federal Emergency Management Agency chief David Paulison told a news conference the plan is to get people out of the trailers before the warm summer months, when heat and a lack of ventilation could make things worse.

Dr. Julie Gerberding of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that although formaldehyde levels were low in some trailers, others were high enough to cause breathing problems for children, the elderly or people who already have problems.

Trailer occupants will be moved to apartments or hotels.
