The Staunton Police Department is reminding residents to never give out personal banking information over the phone.

They're issuing the warning after several residents reported receiving calls from a New York-based company trying to sell Medicare cards.

One resident even lost a considerable amount of money because she gave her bank account number to the caller.

The police department says if you need help with your Medicare card, call Medicare yourself.
