A study of low-income kids enrolled in West Virginia's Women, Infants and Children program shows that the Mountain State has a lower-than-national average of overweight children.
The report from the state Office of Nutrition Services found that the number of overweight West Virginia children ages two to five was more than 13 percent in 2007. The national rate for WIC kids is about 15 percent.
Cindy Hall, the state office's program integrity coordinator, says she expects the numbers weight to improve in the future due to a nationwide WIC push for less fattening foods.
