A national health care advocacy group is criticizing West Virginia's redesigned Medicaid plan, saying it's inadequate for addressing the state's health problems and unfair to recipients.

Washington, D.C.-based Families USA says in a report released Thursday that the new plan is confusing, and leaves too many Medicaid recipients behind when it comes to benefits like weight management and cardiac rehabilitation.

Department of Health and Human Resources Secretary Martha Walker dismissed the findings.

Walker said Families USA has opposed the redesign from the start. She said her agency has yet to receive any major complaints from Medicaid recipients.

Walker had wanted the group to delay the release of its report until it could get more information.
