School's back in session, so let the germs begin!

Dr. Steven Mumbauer with Waynesboro Pediatrics has seen hand, foot and mouth disease as well as herpangina. The two are related viruses that cause sores in the mouth among other things. Mumbauer is also starting to see some colds as well as treating allergic rhinitis and viral diarrhea.

The stomach bug strikes again! Central Shenandoah Health District's Epidemiologist, Deborah Bundy-Carpenter, says most of the gastrointestinal illness they are treating are nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

Carpenter says stay home if you are sick, so you don't infect others. Drink plenty of fluids, wash your hands frequently and see your physician if your illness last longer than 48 hours.
