Huntington's Mildred Mitchell-Bateman Hospital must correct deficiencies cited by a national group or face losing its accreditation.
The Joint Commission conducted a surprise inspection of the 90-bed state-run psychiatric hospital in August in response to a complaint.
Commission spokesman Ken Powers says the hospital has 45 days to submit a corrective action plan. The nonprofit accreditation group doesn't release or discuss reports following investigations, but the hospital is known to be overcrowded.
State officials have discussed several options to help ease overcrowding at Bateman and another state-run mental health facility, but haven't committed to a course of action.
A call to a Department of Health and Human Resources spokesman Wednesday wasn't immediately returned.
