October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Staunton Mall is helping to spread the word.

For the entire month, stores at the mall will be handing out pink ribbons to customers. Shoppers will also notice an information cart with valuable resources from the Virginia Breast Cancer foundation.

Volunteer Rita Handley says education is key.

"It's one of the leading causes of cancer deaths for women and we take the opportunity to use it as an education tool," says Handley.

Handley reminds all women that they should be getting regular mammograms. She says that’s the best diagnostic tool doctors currently have.
