Aside from postpartum depression new research says that mothers may also be at an increased risk for other mental disorders following childbirth.
Scientists found women had a higher risk of mental illness in the three months following birth.
Along with depression, women suffered from disorders such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. The highest risk was during the 10 to 19 days following delivery.
Researchers suggest changes in a woman's hormones during pregnancy, and the new lifestyle that follows may cause this increased risk.
