Drug Coated Stents

To prevent blocked arteries doctors use drug coated stents that slowly release medicine, in addition to prescribing both Aspirin and the anti-platelet drug Plavix.

A study shows patients who stopped taking Plavix six months, or even a year after their surgery were twice as likely to die from a heart attack as those who continued taking the medicine.

This risk increased as early as 15 days after patients stopped taking Plavix.
