The northern Shenandoah Valley has confirmed its first case of the H1N1 influenza virus.
Health officials out of the Lord Fairfax District of the Department of Health say a teen is recovering at home after coming down with the H1N1 strain of the flu.
Officials say the family of the victim did the right thing when they noticed their child had flu-like symptoms and called the doctor before bringing the victim in to be treated.
Stephen Haering, Lord Fairfax Health District Health Director, says, "It's better to be calling, that way they can take precautionary measures. That way they can put a mask on you, or separate you by six feet from everyone else in the waiting room, and put masks on their nurses and doctors. That way it's not spread."
Haering says each person the minor has come in contact with has also been advised of the victim's condition.
It's still not known where in the area the case was discovered or the age of the victim.
There has been 161 confirmed cases of H1N1 in the Commonwealth.
