Many forget popping the cork at midnight can be a dangerous thing if done incorrectly.
Champagne cork injuries are very common, and often cause permanent damage.
This holiday, experts are offering tips to prevent these serious injuries.
One, be sure not to shake the bottle prior to opening to minimize additional risk.
Two, make sure champagne is chilled because the cork of a warm bottle can pop unexpectedly.
And three, when it's time to open, put a towel over the cork and point it away from yourself and others, and then slowly twist the cork until it eases out.
